Redistricting Task Force Application

Task Force Applicant Requirements

In 2020 there will be another census and consequently another redistricting. The League needs to be ready to be an effective force on this issue. The LWVUS Board will be appointing a LWVUS Redistricting Task Focewith a goal to to finish the work of the task force by Council 2015.

Redistricting Task Force will be appointed to: (1) review the various methods and criteria that have been used in the states and the positions of state Leagues on redistricting; (2) consider how well the methods and criteria have worked; (3) develop materials to educate Leagues and communities; and (4) make recommendations on next steps, including possible concurrence statements or other policy determinations.

If you are interested in participating in this Redistricting Task Force, please fill out the attached (application) form by April 1.

Requirements for task force membership:

Persons appointed to a LWVUS Redistricting Task Force must:

  1. Be members of the League;
  2. Have League experience;
  3. Be involved in their local or state League;
  4. Represent the diversity of the League, as much as possible;
  5. Provide one reference;
  6. Have expertise in the area of the study;
  7. Have research, writing and editing experience;
  8. Have a proven ability to work within a team.

Once appointed the following procedures apply:

  1. The task force shall meet generally by phone and email;
  2. The LWVUS chair of the task force or her/ his designee shall provide an agenda for each task force meeting;
  3. A record shall be kept of meetings of the task force by the chair or her/ his designee;
  4. A timeline for the review shall be developed and reported to the Board and to the membership, if appropriate;
  5. Written materials prepared by the task force shall be edited for substance and accuracy by the task force members;
  6. All communications regarding the task force progress and process will be announced by the LWVUS Board.

Individual members of the task force shall be responsible for:

  1. Attending all meetings of the task force unless excused;
  2. Agreeing to the goals and timeline of the task force;
  3. Executing the task force agreement as to control of any written material prepared by the task force;
  4. Meeting task force deadlines for research and delivery of written material; and
  5. Ensuring the substantive accuracy of the text and all citations of written materials.
